Sex, Then Amnesia
(CNM) -- It was either mind-blowing or completely forgettable. Either way, Alice doesn't remember. One August morning, Alice and her husband, Scott, had sex. That's when things became confusing. Rather than appearing pleased, Alice, 59, seemed disoriented. As they lay in bed, Scott flicked on the television, which was showing the Olympics. This perplexed Alice. "Is there an Olympics?" she asked. This was during the Michael Phelps mania, when the swimmer seemed to be everywhere.
"Are you sure there is an Olympics?" Alice asked again.
Scott darted out of bed and called 911. The paramedics suspected a stroke and rushed the befuddled Alice to the emergency room.
Such memory loss usually occurs after the person engages in strenuous activity -- such as having sex, vigorously exercising, suddenly immersing into icy or hot water, straining to dig a stuck car, bumping the head, or doing all of the above during a sexual encounter.
Doctors don't know what causes this memory loss, but generally attribute it to the sudden and significant change in blood flow that accompanies sex. Some doctors say this explains why so many men who get caught by their wive's in bed with someone else can't remember how they got there.
A related condition seems to affect men BEFORE they have sex, when just the thought of having sex with a new woman causes a short term memory loss about their marital status, a condition that doctors say worsens if the man has taken viagra.

Kabul, Afghanistan -- Afghan electoral officials Monday declared incumbent President Hamid Karzai the winner of another term in office, after canceling this weekend's second round of voting. Afghanistan's Independent Electoral Commission announced Karzai's victory Monday after it canceled Saturday's presidential runoff because of the withdrawal of candidate Abdullah Abdullah. Sources say Abdullah withdrew after a private conversation with Barack Obama, who convinced him that "Being President of a country isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's not like I thought it would be." Obama then gave Abdullah his season tickets to the Chicago Cubs baseball season, saying "You might as well have them, they'll never let ME go to those games."

Four teenagers were busted for burglarizing the homes of media stars like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan etc. Turns out they found their scores by following these stars on shows like TMZ and other paparazzi driven media, seeing what nice clothing and jewels those stars were wearing, and deciding what they wanted. Kind of like the TMZ Shopping Chanel or something. Then by watching those shows they could see when the stars were "out for the night" at some club or event, and they'd go rob their houses. When asked why they did it...in something similar to what some bank robbing hood said 50 years ago..."Why do you rob movie star houses?"...they replied..."Because it's where the nice clothes are. Duh dude."

Rockets. Article in the LA TIMES about a rocket competition going on today somewhere in New Mexico. Sponsored by NASA, with a $2 million dollar prize...all you have to do is design a rocket that can take off from a pad, fly to a different pad, then take off and fly back to the first pad, all within a time limit. There are several entries, and they all work. Very cool stuff. It's NASA's attempt to entice the private sector into future space development.

My cats definately have an ear for music, they run to the crawlspace when I sing in the shower. I made a movie of that and put it on the CAT section of YouTube, and am awaiting glory. It will come.

It comes down to the room with 100 monkeys and 100 typewriters. Just because you have the tools does not mean you will produce a great novel. If you have an ear or an eye for music or video, ubiquitous technology is beginning to enable those with talent as opposed to being a barrier to entry.

Yup. That and someone who'll do something interesting on camera. I have an 8 year old, and cats. Both kids and cats are in lots of YouTube cameras. They'll work cheap for you. Interested?

Program something? The web has opened a door into the software industry in the same way Final Cut lets everyone make high quality movies. With a little effort, pretty much anyone can learn to make web applications. It doesn't take high priced programmers to do it. The web has changed the programming game the same way PageMaker changed the publishing business 20 years ago. It may still take talent to make good stuff, but you don't have to be a "Professional Programmer" anymore. Professional programmers, like typesetters 20 years ago, will argue that point. But it's true. Anyone can play these days.

Make a movie, make music, program something. See what you can do. Maybe you'll make crap. Maybe not. But at least now you can try.

There are some "professionals"...movie directors...musicians...who bemoan and belittle the fact that anyone with a couple hundred dollars can now purchase hardware and software that pretty much enable people to produce results that on a technical level can stand toe to toe with what only a couple years ago tool millions of dollars and a squadron of highly paid 'professionals' to produce. It seems to me that's both shortsighted and tacky.
Sure, given access to this new professional grade technology and software few people have the necessary Talent to produce anything of value. Just visit the backrooms on YouTube and you'll see plenty of lame stuff. On the other hand, there are also plenty of examples of extremely good material produced by obviously talented individuals out there. Stuff that would never have been produced had those people been hamstrung by the closed incestuous climate that surrounds the music, movie, and entertainment industry in general.

And that story on the boats was interesting. One of the boats is a great big tanker size ship that ended up 2 miles from shore. Landed on some houses they say. Now they can't figure out how to move it back to the ocean.

Yeah, but not everyone with a video camera makes something that makes $100 million. Have to give someone some credit on that one.

Paranormal Activity was bought by the studio for $300K, and they apparently spent about $10 million promoting it. All very cheap relative to what they spend on movies these days. The movie is expected to break $100 million, and hasn't even gone overseas yet. Pretty amazing. Unknown makes movie for cheap...and someone makes $100 million off it. If only it would happen more. It happened with the Blair Witch Project, and more recently Open Water.

The film "Paranormal Activity" has been out a couple weeks. It has made over $65 million dollars, and easily squashes the competition. You know how much it cost to make that movie? $15,000. Ain't America Grand?
